The deep clean guide for the kitchen.

1. First up and the most important – assign tasks to various members of the household, unless you prefer to be at one with the scrubbing brush and serenity.

2. Start the clean at the ceiling and work down. Tie a tea towel over your broom and sweep away any cobwebs in the cornices and dab some lemon oil around the place to deter the creepy crawlies.

3. Wipe or dust the light fittings, replace blown light bulbs.

4. Clean and wipe extractor fans down with glycerine (thank you Shannon Lush for this tip) and scrub the top of cupboards.

5. Work your way along the cabinet tops, wiping all the surfaces.

6. Wipe down the counters/benches.

7. When you get to the sink, make a pre-emptive strike and clean the drain, because it is a royal pain in the backside when the drain blocks and there is nothing quite like seeing everything you’ve sent down the sink come back up. This is a good drain cleaner method. Once you’re done, scrub the sink and if it’s stainless steel give a final wipe with baby oil.

8. Wipe down appliances. For brushed stainless steel use a drop of baby oil, while plastic likes a few drops of glycerine.

9. Clean the stove and oven.

10. Mop the floor

After all that blood, sweat and tears, take a moment to enjoy how happy your kitchen looks after all that attention.
